w8fgu portable ops in double springs, alabama

bamaop1.jpg The W8FGU operator sitting on a deck overlooking Smith Lake in northwest Alabama.

I made up a 66' end fed antenna with a 36' counterpoise and a 66' doublet fed with 450 ohm ladder line conected to the rig with a 4:1 balun. I set up on an old wooden table that was on the deck and put the antennas up parallel to each other. I put one end of the antennas up in trees that surrounded the deck and ran them in a slope down to a boat dock out on the lake.

Not a bad view to operate from.

The lantern on the corner of the table helped me see what I was writing at night.

The boat dock that I attached the antenna ends to just below the roof line.

The doublet suspended from a tree and bock dock.

If you look hard enough, you can see both antennas.

The doublet layed out. the suspension pieces are made out of Lexan.

The ladder line is mounted in between these pieces of Lexan to provide strain relief.

There is also a hole to hang the doublet from the middle.
